No Visible Wear After 6–8 Months in Tough Waste Conditions.

OVERVIEW

A Victorian organics recycling operator processes garden and food organic waste into valuable soil-conditioning products, helping divert organic material from landfill while returning valuable nutrients to the environment.
Handling processed green organic waste, however, presents a distinct materials-handling challenge. Variable moisture levels and the naturally adhesive characteristics of the material can contribute to sticking, build-up and spillage across material-contact surfaces.

To improve material flow and create a cleaner, safer processing environment, the customer required a reliable lining solution capable of handling these challenging conditions.

CHALLENGE

  • Persistent material sticking and build-up.
  • Increased spillage around processing equipment.
  • Ongoing hygiene and housekeeping requirements.
  • Increased workplace safety risks.

At the waste & recycling facility, processed organic material was adhering to existing plain mild-steel surfaces, progressively building up and contributing to material spillage.  The issue extended beyond material flow. Accumulated organic waste and spillage required additional housekeeping and created potential hygiene and workplace safety concerns around the processing equipment. The operator needed a durable, low-friction lining solution that would reduce the tendency for sticky material to adhere to contact surfaces and promote smoother movement through the process.

SOLUTION

With previous awareness of Kinder Australia’s bulk materials handling solutions through the quarrying industry, the customer approached Kinder Field Applications team to investigate a suitable solution.

K-Slide® UHMWPE Low Friction Liner was selected to replace the existing plain mild-steel contact surface. For the application, Kinder supplied K-Slide® UHMWPE – 7000 Red, 12 mm.

To streamline installation, the K-Slide® liners were cut to profile and supplied with countersunk holes, providing a fit-for-purpose solution ready for installation.

K-Slide® UHMWPE provides a low-friction material-contact surface designed to assist the movement of difficult bulk materials. In this application, the smoother surface helps reduce the tendency of moist organic material to adhere to the structure, supporting more consistent material flow and reducing build-up.

RESULTS

  • No visible signs of wear after 6 – 8 months in operation.
  • Withstands challenging foreign material, including broken concrete and metal.
  • Handles sticky, wet plastics and mixed waste.
  • Reduced material sticking, build-up and spillage.
  • Well suited to humid and corrosive operating conditions.

Following installation in September 2025, K-Slide® UHMWPE Low Friction Liner has delivered a significant improvement to material flow through the operator’s waste chute.

In addition to sticky, wet plastics and general waste, the chute is exposed to foreign materials including broken concrete and metal. K-Slide® has proven durable enough to withstand these demanding conditions while maintaining the low-friction surface required to promote smoother material movement.

Replacing the original mild-steel contact surface has reduced the tendency for material to stick and build up, helping minimise spillage and the associated housekeeping, hygiene and safety concerns. The liner is also proving
well suited to the facility’s humid and corrosive operating environment.

The success of the installation has prompted the operator to investigate additional locations where K-Slide® could be applied across the operation.  The customer is also considering complementary Kinder solutions, including K-Floshield® Polished High Chrome Liner, K-Snap-Loc® Dust Seal System and Eraser™ Belt Cleaning System.

The ongoing performance of K-Slide® demonstrates its value as a durable, fit-for-purpose solution for improving material flow in demanding waste and recycling applications.

After 6–8 months in operation, the Maintenance Manager reported “K-Slide® continues to perform strongly, with no visible signs of wear despite exposure to a challenging and highly variable waste stream”.
